Flatbed

At Loadstar transportation we specialize in flatbed trucking. With flatbed trucking there is a variety of trailer types that are designed to fit the many needs required to transport different commodities either based on size or how they need to be loaded.

Flatbed trucking serves the needs of customers typically transporting heavier and longer commodities that require the flexibility of loading with a crane or the ability to load from the side of the truck. This type of freight is often times over length, over sized, overweight or any combination thereof. A flatbed trucking service is ideal for construction sites or shipping points that have no available dock it is also ideal for projects on the move with time sensitive schedules.

Loadstar Transportation supplies flatbed trucking service through out the continental united states and Canada with Less than truckload (LTL) and Full Truckload (FTL) service.

Trailer Selection
A standard flatbed is the most common type of flatbed trailer. They range in size from 48ft in length to 53ft in length. Although a 48ft flatbed trailer is far more common. A flatbed trailer is typically 58 to 60 inches from the ground and is 102 inches wide (8ft’6inches). They can haul freight that is up to 8’6 high without a permit. Shipments that are wider than 8ft 6 inches can also be moved on a flatbed but would require permits to move anything over the width of the trailer. Freight that is over 11’6 wide will also often have requirements that they must travel with a Pilot or Escort vehicle. A pilot or escort vehicle is a special vehicle with flashing lights and or height poles that escorts the flatbed on the route for safety reasons. Generally over width and over height shipments can only travel during daylight hours which may impact the timeline that it may take for them to get to your delivery.

Freight is often allowed to overhang the front or the back of a flatbed trailer as well depending on the type of trailer and the states that the load would be travelling through but the amount of overhang that is allowed on a trailer without a permit is dependant on the State in which the load is moving through. You also cannot combine multiple legal loads on a flatbed trailer to create one oversized load and you can’t move an oversized load that could be broken down into multiple legal loads although there is exceptions to this rule.
